Matter over mind
Human Design is a dualistic system. We each have a Personality Crystal (the passenger) and a Design Crystal (the vehicle). These two aspects are held together in the illusion of their separateness by the driver, the Magnetic Monopole which sits in the G center and guides the direction of our lives. We could say the Personality Crystal is the mind and the Design Crystal is the body.
In Human Design, the Body is the life. The body is our discerning agent of what is correct for us to experience and what is not. All of this to say, the body and the mind are not necessarily connected to each other. The life can get very frustrating when the mind is trying to drive when it doesn’t really know where it’s going.
“Mind over matter,” is that really true? If you reflect on the decisions that have been made mentally through a combination of pros and cons lists and evaluating what “should” be done; have those brought satisfaction, success, peace or surprise? Or do they result in frustration, bitterness, anger or disappointment?
The mind is an incredible asset when it is awakened to its role as the passenger. Imagine being on a guided tour: There’s a driver who knows exactly where they’re going - all the passenger has to do is observe the scenery as they drive by. They get to look out the window and engage with what they see however it’s correct for them. They admire the beauty; experience a limitless range of emotions, sensations and experiences; learn through the challenges life brings that exactly what is needed to move through them will come at exactly the right time and they connect with all types of others. Throughout the tour, they develop a deep love and acceptance with themselves and with life.
Now imagine this scenario: the passenger signs up for this tour, but instead of looking out the window they are constantly leaning over the driver’s shoulders screaming directions and questioning if they actually know where they’re going. The driver is impeded and they get into accidents, make wrong turns and get flat tires without having the proper tools to get through the challenges. It ends, and what have they seen? With such an emphasis on trying to drive instead of participating in what the tour is offering, What have they learned?
We have all been conditioned to make mental decisions. There is a lot of anger, frustration, bitterness and disappointment in the energy field and there is nothing wrong. We simply now have this beautiful opportunity to experiment with living a different way and inviting a shift in the frequency to one of peace, satisfaction, success and surprise.
Human Design offers us the tools of Type, Strategy & Authority along with clear signposts to know when we are living in alignment and when something is ready for a readjustment. We can identify where the mind’s stories are coming from; invite love and acceptance into those places and the moments in time when the stories developed and then watch as they alchemize.
Human Design helps us to remember who we are. Beyond that, it helps us build a deep level of acceptance, love and trust with our bodies and with the life.
So, maybe this age old saying of “mind over matter” is ready for a reframe? What if we say, “Matter over Mind?” The body is the life after all. I invite you to liberate the passenger from the stress of thinking it has to run the show and let it enjoy and learn from the tour.
